Clinics 2022 with Derry VM.

As the 2022 season begins, as a coach, I am also at a point of new beginnings - having relocated to Stourbridge in the West Midlands, at the end of 2021, I have embarked on finding new venues to host my clinics. Don’t worry, all of my fabulous clients in South Bucks - I’ll still be arranging dates there too.

My new local and surrounding areas have a huge array of locations, livery yards and equine facilities; ensuring I can still focus on keeping my clinics in the West Midlands the same high quality, relaxed and fun that they always have been.

Some key points about clinics with me;

  • Groups of 2 or 3 riders MAX - (no more huge groups or riders aimlessly following each other around)

  • Lots of 1-1 time

  • Sessions are supportive and well structured

  • Tailor made and personalised; coaching for the individual - yup ..that means I’ll help you and your horse to improve not just direct you around an arena through endless exercises that aren’t appropriate for you (or your horse)

  • A coach that is actively wanting to help you (sounds obvious, I know , but honestly you’d be surprised how some sessions are run)

  • You’ll have a good time ..we will all laugh and enjoy the session

  • Adaptive and responsive, if we have to change the goal either way I will work at an appropriate level for horse and rider

  • Focused on the horse and the rider (because the missing piece is, so many are focused on one or the other and it’s a team effort )

  • Clear explanations and reasoning

  • Expert coaching and teaching

  • 1-1 private sessions available on all clinics if preferred (additional charges apply)

My current clinics at a glance..

. Pole Work .

These sessions are pole work focused for flat work, catering for all abilities, and confidence levels, exercises are bespoke to suit, there is always something to progress and increase complexity if needed and be simplified, striped back for those wanting to keep things simple. Sessions from lead rein to walk, trot & canter and all variations in between. Just let me know on booking what pace you’d like to work at.

.Prep to jump / Novice Jump.

These sessions are focused on ‘preparing to jump’ pole work with the view of jumping, the jumping is completely optional but these sessions will work on development of balance rhythm, approach and exit as if you were jumping - there are optional fences included, just let me know when you book if you like to stay on the ground or end on some jumping. Great if you jump or not!

.Franklin Ball / Rider Position/ Biomechanics.

Work with (or without) Franklin Balls to develop your awareness of yours and your horses body focusing on ways to influence and change asymmetries; work to resolve things that enable or cause horses to hollow or that fall in/ fall out, that dodgie hip or shoulder that causes you to be ‘crooked’. This session ideal for happy hackers, those who like to do some schooling and dressage enthusiasts of all levels, after all we all want to be able to keep our self and our horse balanced, straight and organised. Be prepared for change and to feel a little ‘weird’ experimenting with new things.

I’m pleased to be working with the following venues

West Midlands

Pine Meadows Arena - Stourbridge DY7 - Outdoor 30x60 arena with a combi ride surface, on a quiet location, the area over looks fields.

Dodderhill Equestrian - Crutch Lane Droitwich WR9 - 20X60m sand and carpet fibre indoor arena.

South Bucks

Grove Farm Livery and Events, Welders Lane Chalfont st Peter SL9 20x40 Rubber surface outdoors.

Some feedback from some that have attended clinics with me;

‘’Derry’s clinics are above anything, great fun! Creating unique exercises that he adapts brilliantly for each horse, he finds the perfect blend between focussing on you and your horse as an individual pair with allowing you to learn as part of a group. I’ve attended groundwork, polework and jumping clinics with Derry with both of my horses and each has left me feeling positive and like I’ve genuinely learnt something. Derry has an inclusive and energetic teaching style at a clinic that has encouraged me to think about things differently - all helping me and my horses to enjoy ourselves more’’
